Frank Deblon

 Zwevegem, België

I am a photographer who feels best when I can take (minimalist) photos that radiate peace and tranquility. This often involves the use of filters. These ensure that the tranquility and minimalism is further enhanced.

I started around the age of 16, when it was still completely analogue. After a summer job, I had saved enough money to purchase a second-hand Canon AE1.
I like to take photos everywhere, but when there is water nearby then I am really in my element.

In what weather conditions do you prefer to go out?
I don't really have a preference for a season but I do like there to be clouds with openings and not too much wind. I don't like to brave the extreme cold.

What motivated you to take up photography?
About 6 years ago I started training as a photographer at the CVO Scala in Kortrijk and a number of people teach there who really motivated me to go for it. I also take photographs to relax. Long shutter speeds help enormously with this.

What do you think is important when giving workshops?
I think it is important that everyone can be addressed and that I have time to talk to each of them personally and possibly give some tips. That is why I limit the number of participants to a maximum of 6 people.

Are there moments in your life that had a great influence on your photography experience?
The training as a photographer at the CVO Scala in Kortrijk was a very educational experience. I came into contact with all forms of photography, but eventually realized that my favorite form is long shutter speeds.

Which locations are still on your Bucket List?
Brittany (Fr) and Basque Country (Sp) closer and of course Iceland, Norway, Canada are places I really want to go to.

What makes the difference?
Being in the right place at the right time with the right equipment.

Which Kase Filter product is your favorite?
For me, nothing beats the Kase Armor system. I like working with filters, but certainly also with variable ND filters and nothing beats this system

Which camera system do you photograph with?
I switched to the Sony system in 2019 and have been shooting with the Alpha 7 series ever since

Do you have any tips for beginning photographers to take better photos?
Going out a lot, a lot and trying, keep trying. Photography is like cycling, you never forget it, but only those who practice and train a lot get better
