Who are you?
I am an amateur photographer, but this has become more and more a passion for so many. My interest in photography goes back to my youth, when I was 15, when my cousin, already a passionate photographer, gave me a camera that he no longer used. After shooting a few rolls of film, I was completely sold. I started focusing more and more on photography and after a while I bought my first camera (I can't remember which brand). A little later I bought my first reflex camera, a Nikon FG with two lenses. During the first years of my marriage, photography was pushed into the background, time, pricey, ... And I haven't photographed for a long time. Until I met Marcel van Balkom. And photography was back there.

What is your favorite location?
My favorite locations are nature reserves in Belgium and the Netherlands and of course the Belgian/Dutch coast (Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and Zeeland). But in autumn I also like to go to the Ardennes in Belgium, small watercourses combined with beautifully colored leaves and trees.

What weather conditions do you prefer to go out in?
I prefer to go out into nature when there is a beautiful sunrise/sunset or when there is fog. This in itself is quite a challenge, but with some very good weather apps, I usually manage. But if I do find that things are not as predicted, I always try to make the best of it.

What motivated you to take up photography?
During my childhood years my cousin, but much later Marcel van Balkom. Marcel could/can tell so much about it and show pictures because I was completely sold. Having been on the road with Marcel several times and having learnt and can still learn a huge amount from him, I remain more and more motivated to continue.

What do you consider important when giving workshops?
During my workshops, my aim is always to make participants feel relaxed and teach them as much as possible all the necessary techniques involved in landscape photography, with or without filters. If at the end of the workshops my participants are satisfied and say they have learned something, I am also a satisfied person.

Are there any moments in your life, which influenced your photography experience a lot?
Yes, due to my stressful job, I suffered burnout twice. At those moments, photography was and still is my relaxation/exhaustion valve. When I am early in the morning, alone, in a nature reserve and I see it getting light with or without a beautiful sunrise, I am happy and relaxed and forget everything else.

What locations are still on your Bucket List?
As a pensioner, the nature reserves in Belgium and the Netherlands and the coast are enough for me. I don't really have a bucket list. For me, Belgium and the Netherlands give and have enough beautiful places to go to. And if I had to choose I would go for Norway and Iceland.

What makes the difference?
Good equipment. It does not have to be expensive and the very best, but it has to be good and knowing all the functionalities of your camera is important. You do not put a heavy reflex camera on a tripod that is not suitable for such a camera (example). Of course, you should always be dressed correctly for the conditions at the time. This way, you can go out in all weather conditions.

Which Kase Filter product is your favourite?
I have been shooting with Kase filters since 2017. My first set was the K8, quickly expanded with all the necessary filters before moving along to the K9 and then to the Armour magnetic system. The Armour system is therefore my big favourite. Because it is magnetic, it is very easy and quick to insert or remove filters. Similarly, I have multiple adapters to put on my different lenses and changing them is quick. With the K9 slide filters, it all takes much longer and is not as practical.

What camera system do you shoot with?
I am a Canon user (Canon 6D and Canon R system) and am so satisfied with it that I won't change anytime soon. I'm so used to working with Canon cameras (menu, settings, ...) that I won't change because of that.

Do you have any tips for beginning photographers to take better photos?
Beware of social media, it all might not be real (AI, different sky in the photo, ....)
Have your photos judged, e.g. on a forum or photo club, and learn from the reactions they give you.
Follow workshops to learn even more about compositions, settings, ed.
Go out yourself as much as possible and apply the learned or improved comments you have received on previous photos.
